 ifup works; networkmanager doesn't
My laptop running oS v11.1 with KDE3 is connected to my network; the setup is ifup. It operates properly. The wireless card is Intel 5300.
I would like to use NetworkManager instead. When I change the setting in Network Services, it is no longer possible to access the network.
The knetworkmanager applet shows that there is a wlan0 connection, gives the correct ESSID name, recognizes that it is WPA encrypted, and shows a good level of signal.
The Notification Settings screen lists the following events:
Network device removed NetworkManager is connecting NetworkManager is now connected NetworkManager is now disconnected New network device found New wireless network found Switched to offline mode Wireless network disappeared
After the above, the Edit Connections screeen continues to show the connection name, with type "802-11-wireless". Pressing on the Edit Connections button brings up a window showing the ESSID, with "New Connection" in the upper left corner. Then pressing on the "Connect and Save" button causes the knetworkmanager icon to become a revolving cogwheel for a while; after it stops, I cannot ping the router ("Network is unreachable").
I do not believe that there is a problem of mismatch of the WPA keys, because I entered them at both ends by dropping the same copied string on both.
Why can networkmanager not connect?

 Re: ifup works; networkmanager doesn't
hi there.
I use the same card on 11.2 - kde and in this case it works, no glitches. How about an upgrade? Maybe the solution for you.

 Re: ifup works; networkmanager doesn't
I think network manager improved between 11.1 and 11.2, because it actually works for me with 11.2 and it never worked for me before. I always used ifup, which wasn't a problem for me because I don't change networks. I know upgrading isn't the best option. Sorry I have no idea what the real problem is.
