Have spent full days unsuccessfully trying to install the downloaded files (which thunar file manager won't recognize as files) of openoffice 3.1.1 (the java JRE uncompressed; the OOo still as .gz) on opensuse 11.1 with wm fvwm. Someone suggested that it is possible that openoffice just won't ever integrate with fvwm -- does anyone know anything about that, so I won't spend more time trying to do the impossible?
On my DESKTOP have jre-6u17-linux-i586.bin and OOo_3.1.1_LinuxIntel_install_wJRE_en-US.tar.gz but can not get the "open with install" program to do anything with them (switches to "Starting Softwear Manager" and then spins on indefinitely or finally comes back to desktop screen having done nothing). Command line action gets repeated messages that can't find these files, no matter how many cd actions are taken or diferent commands issued.
Hate to have to try using an install cd or dvd, and can't be sure even they would work (SUSE has the OOo on its install dvd, but can't use that because it doesn't accept integration with OOo extension manager). Anyone have any experience along these lines?
